The University of South Wales (USW) has agreed a partnership with housing, care and support provider, Hafod, with the aim of making a positive difference to society and the lives of people across the region.

Both organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their collaboration and work towards developing and enhancing professional practice to promote improvements in health and social wellbeing.

The organisations have joined together to create bespoke learning and development programmes for Hafod employees to support the organisation’s future development needs.

A programme for senior carers has been developed within the USW’s School of Care Sciences. This provides senior carers with the opportunity to progress their careers by enhancing clinical skills. Participants will benefit from a series of lectures coupled with immersive learning at USW’s Clinical Simulation Centre, allowing them to learn in a state-of-the-art environment.

Alongside this, ‘Leading Edge’, a large-scale Leadership & Management programme, has been created. This engages Directors and Heads of Service from across Hafod, with the aims of enhancing leadership capacity and developing management skills through active learning, self-awareness, reflective practice, and critical thinking. This is delivered by USW Commercial Services in partnership with the Professional Development Centre.

Sara Owen, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at USW, said:

“We are pleased to partner with one of the largest providers of housing, care and support in South Wales.

“Hafod will not only benefit from USW’s advanced facilities and bespoke training, it will provide solutions through mobilising their collective talents and knowledge to ultimately strengthen the local economy and wider communities.

“This partnership reaffirms the university’s strong connections with industry to deliver innovative solutions to meet collaborative partner needs.”

Jas Bains, Hafod Chief Executive added:

“The signing of the MoU is another significant step towards providing colleagues with inspiring learning opportunities and reinforces Hafod’s ambition to provide the best work based learning environment in South Wales.

We’ve recently launched our academi which is home to all of our learning programmes and will support our colleagues on every step of their learning journey.

Our partnership with USW will contribute towards the academi’s success by presenting us with an array of first-class facilities and programmes which will ultimately benefit our tenants, service users and communities alike.”

The signing of MoU is took place on 12th February.
