One of Wales’ leading architectural firms, Rio, has appointed web design, development and technology company, UpriseVSI to design and develop a new company website.
Established in 2000, Cardiff-based Rio Architects employs 40 staff and has been responsible for designing some of Wales’ most iconic new buildings in recent years. These include The Royal Mint Experience in Llantrisant and One Central Square, which won the UK’s Best Commercial Scheme at the 2017 Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards.
The company is currently working with property developer, Rightacres, on the proposed Central Quay scheme, which will see the redevelopment of the Brains Brewery site into a riverside destination with flats, offices, bars and restaurants.
Rio has also designed several of Cardiff’s new student accommodation buildings with the most recent project being the 26-storey student block on the corner of Bridge Street and Charles Street in the centre of the city. The company is also working with developer, Watkin Jones on a new 42-storey student accommodation building on Customhouse Street, which, at 433ft high will be the tallest residential building in Wales. Outside of Wales, Rio has worked on projects throughout the UK and as far afield as Moscow and Madrid.
Cardiff-based UpriseVSI was appointed by Rio Architects following a competitive pitch process to help modernise its online presence by designing and developing a new website for the brand. The site will be built on thinkCMS, UpriseVSI’s bespoke content management system and will be fully responsive to mobile and tablet devices. It will not only showcase the range of experience and expertise within Rio’s team but will also position it as a company which works on a local, national and international stage.
UpriseVSI has delivered digital solutions for many SMEs within Wales as well as global brands including NFL franchise, Jacksonville Jaguars, the Aston Martin Owners Club, Thomas Cook and global luxury online retailer, Farfetch. In addition to its web design and development services, the company specialises in online booking and scheduling through its award-winning software, thinkBooker.
Richard Roberts, Director at Rio, said;
“Rio has been extremely busy over the past few years and has been fortunate enough to work on some exciting and notable projects both within Wales and further afield. During this time, our team has grown substantially and consequently the expertise and services that we offer has developed considerably.
“We felt that the time was right for us to update our website to reflect the changes within the business and, in particular to reflect our positioning as an innovative and creative company that is at the forefront of our industry. Having met with several web design and development companies, we felt that UpriseVSI’s considered and methodical approach was a good fit for us and we look forward to working with them on the project.”
Managing Director of UpriseVSI, Gareth Rees Jones, said:
“We have been aware of Rio Architects for some time due to their involvement in the design of new buildings such as One Central Square, but it was interesting to find out about the growth that they have experienced over the past few years and the other projects that they are involved in not just here in Wales and the UK but also internationally.
“We were naturally delighted to be chosen to work with Rio on their new website and our team are really relishing the chance to deliver a website which combines high quality design, great user experience and informative content, together with a CMS that will allow Rio’s team to easily update and manage the site in-house.”
