The Ffiws Makerspace Network Expands on Anglesey

Ffiws expands across Anglesey and livens up the high street and gives people the opportunity to create, repair and grow.

Menter Môn has been working with partners to establish new creative spaces on Anglesey to offer opportunities to the people of the area.

Ffiws makerspaces have now been established in three towns on the Island, including Amlwch and Holyhead, with the third location opening in the coming weeks in Llangefni.

These spaces are collaborative workspaces for making, learning, exploring and sharing ideas, that use a host of technological tools. The type of technology available in the spaces includes 3D printers, laser cutters, 3D scanners, sewing machines, and computers, which will also showcases’ new technology and aim to develop a community of makers across the county.

Dafydd Gruffydd, Managing Director of Menter Môn, said:

“Menter Môn is very proud to have been able to offer such exciting opportunities to three towns on Anglesey to create these spaces. We are looking forward to the benefits that such spaces will offer to individuals, businesses and social enterprises to learn and understand new technology but also to have a positive impact on climate change through repair and reuse.”

Holyhead Ffiws is the latest location to open in Anglesey, through our partnership with Môn CF, the space is located within The Computer Geeks store on Stanley Street in the centre of the Town.

Alun Roberts, Môn CF Business Development Manager, said:

“Môn CF is extremely proud to have the opportunity to be part of the innovative Ffiws project led by Menter Môn. With so much emphasis on encouraging all of us to recycle more and try to treat old goods – rather than throwing them away – it is a golden time to introduce new resources to the community of Holyhead and the surrounding area.

With the new Ffiws space it is a great opportunity for local people to make use of the latest equipment to be able to repair goods or create unique items. There will also be an opportunity for new businesses to be able to establish and develop their enterprises by creating new products through access to machinery and technology.”

In the coming weeks, a third Ffiws space will open on the High Street in Llangefni through our partnership with Mencap Môn.

By working with Menter Môn we are in a better position to offer opportunities not only to our members but to prospective new members with disabilities, by giving access to tools and technology, and to encourage creativity and learning new skills.

Ffiws spaces have been funded by Menter Môn and Anglesey County Council through the Welsh Government Circular Economy, and North Anglesey Regeneration Funds.

Mae Ffiws yn ymestyn ar draws Ynys Môn er mwyn bywiogi’r stryd fawr a rhoi cyfle i bobl greu, trwsio a thyfu.

Mae Menter Môn wedi bod yn gweithio gyda phartneriaid i sefydlu gofodau creu newydd ar Ynys Môn i gynnig cyfleon i bobl yr ardal.

Bellach mae gofodau Ffiws wedi cael eu sefydlu mewn tair tref ar yr Ynys, gan gynnwys, Amlwch a Caergybi, gyda’r trydydd lleoliad yn agor yn yr wythnosau nesaf yn Llangefni.

Mannau gwaith cydweithredol ar gyfer gwneud, dysgu, archwilio a rhannu yw’r gofodau hyn sy’n defnyddio llu o offer technolegol. Mae’r math o dechnoleg sydd ar gael yn y gofodau yn cynnwys argraffwyr 3D, torwyr laser, sganwyr 3D, periannau gwnio, a chyfrifiaduron a fydd hefyd yn arddangos technoleg newydd ac yn anelu at ddatblygu cymuned o wneuthurwyr ar draws y sir.

Dywedodd Dafydd Gruffydd, Rheolwr Gyfarwyddwr Menter Môn:

“Mae Menter Môn yn falch iawn o fod wedi gallu cynnig cyfleoedd mor gyffrous i dair tref ar Ynys Môn i greu gofodau Ffiws. Rydym yn edrych ymlaen at y buddion y bydd gofodau o’r fath yn ei gynnig i unigolion, busnesau a mentrau cymdeithasol i ddysgu a deall technoleg newydd ond hefyd i gael effaith gadarnhaol ar newid hinsawdd drwy atgyweirio ac ailddefnyddio.”

Ffiws Caergybi yw’r lleoliad diweddaraf i agor ym Môn, drwy ein partneriaeth a Môn CF. Mae’r gofod wedi’i leoli o fewn siop The Computer Geeks ar Stryd Stanley yn ganol y Dref.

Dywedodd Alun Roberts, Rheolwr Datblygu Busnes Môn CF:

“Mae Môn CF yn hynod o falch o gael y cyfle i fod yn rhan o brosiect arloesol Ffiws dan arweiniad Menter Môn. Gyda chymaint o bwyslais ar annog pob un ohonom i ailgylchu mwy a cheisio trin hen nwyddau – yn hytrach na’u taflu - mae hi’n gyfnod euraidd i gyflwyno adnoddau newydd i gymuned Caergybi a’r cylch.

Gyda’r gofod Ffiws newydd mae’n gyfle gwych i bobl leol wneud defnydd o’r offer mwyaf diweddar i allu trin nwyddau neu greu eitemau unigryw. Bydd yna gyfle hefyd i fusnesau newydd allu sefydlu a datblygu eu mentrau drwy greu cynnyrch newydd drwy fynediad i beiriannau a technoleg.”

Yn yr wythnosau nesaf, bydd trydydd gofod Ffiws yn agor ar y Stryd Fawr yn Llangefni drwy ein partneriaeth a Mencap Môn.

Dywedodd Martin Gallagher, Mencap Môn:

“Mae Mencap Môn yn gyffrous iawn o gael Ffiws yn ein canolfan anabledd newydd. Trwy weithio gyda Menter Môn rydym mewn gwell sefyllfa i gynnig cyfleoedd nid yn unig i'n haelodau ond i ddarpar aelod newydd ag anableddau, drwy roi mynediad i offer a thechnoleg, ac i annog creadigrwydd a dysgu sgiliau newydd.”
