Helen Howson, Director of the Bevan Commission, talks to Business News Wales about the strain the healthcare sector has been under over the past two years and how it can move forward following the pandemic.
The Bevan Commission is an independent thinktank for health and care in Wales. The Bevan Commission Academy aims to help translate the commissions’ findings into practice. Helen played a lead role in its establishment and in the development of the prudent healthcare principles and the Bevan Innovators and Bevan Innovation Hub programmes.
Helen was previously a public health consultant with Public Health Wales which involved leading a major ministerial review of health improvement interventions across Wales and wider service improvement.
In the interview, Helen describes how the likes of lateral flow testing have given us insight into what testing could look like for other illnesses. She said: “We’re now looking to the future. We want to transfer services out of hospitals and into communities.”
