RDM Electrical and Mechanical Services has been contracted by Swansea Council to undertake the installation of a new lighting system at Swansea Market.

An investment of over £200,000 has been made for the new lighting system, which will see the replacement of the current lighting infrastructure with a modern, more efficient LED system. The new lighting will improve visitors’ shopping experience, cut energy costs and make the venue easier to manage.

The project started last week, with the works anticipated to be completed by the start of June 2019. The market will remain open as usual throughout the duration of the project.

The contract adds to the vast portfolio of work undertaken by Llansamlet-based RDM Electrical and Mechanical Services in the city on private developments, as well as its 30-year history of delivering successful projects with local authorities.

Dave Kieft, director and co-owner of RDM Electrical and Mechanical Services, said:

“We are thrilled to have been appointed to provide our services at Wales’ largest indoor market. As a specialist local contractor, we pride ourselves on contributing to these important projects that improve key landmarks and facilities within our home city.”

Robert Francis-Davies, the council's cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said:

“This important upgrade is exciting news for shoppers and traders. Swansea Market is a jewel in the area's crown and it's good that it will have some extra brightness as we celebrate our 50th anniversary as a city.”
