Team members of one of Wales’ leading factories have teed off for the 14th year, raising over £26K in aid of their chosen charity, the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.

Sony UK Technology Centre (UK TEC) staff took to the green on 2nd September, alongside teammates at the Celtic Manor Resort Roman Road Course for the charity event.

Over 100 participants joined the event, including supporters of the Pencoed facility, suppliers, and third-party manufacturing clients, along with local businesses, and stars of the sporting world, making up 28 teams in total – a new record for the annual event.

Golfers enjoyed on-course activities throughout the day, including hole-in-one, par 3, longest drive and nearest to pin competitions. A charity auction also took place, giving participants the opportunity to bid on high-end Sony products, as well as the opportunity to donate to
sample produce from local suppliers.

Thanks to the generosity and support of all those involved, Sony UK TEC were able to support the hard-working medical professionals who continue to put their lives on the line within the Children’s Ward at the Princess of Wales Hospital.

Sony UK TEC Managing Director, Steve Dalton OBE, said:

We would also like to thank the Celtic Manor for their support in enabling this event to go ahead and to the participants who joined us on the day.”

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, and specifically throughout the pandemic, Sony UK TEC has made various donations to assist families and staff at the Princess of Wales Hospital Children's Ward, including ‘goodie' bags filled with essential
overnight items for parents and children, medical equipment, TV's, tablets, and a virtual reality kit with games to help entertain patients.

Steve continued,

“Sony UK TEC is a community focussed facility, which consistently aims to work for the benefit of the people who have supported its growth. As such, it is our privilege to have built up a strong relationship with Princess of Wales Hospital, and we look forward to supporting them in the years to come.”

As of March 2021, a total of £148K was raised for the nominated charity, on top of goods/services provided. Further donations have been made since then, including breast pumps, hot cots, and not forgetting the additional £26K.

The Princess of Wales Hospital has expressed its gratitude for the continued support, especially during these challenging times.

“I’d like to thank Sony for their friendship, and dedication to the children of Bridgend.”

“We have been through some really tough times with COVID-19, and we’re now going through some more tough times with respiratory diseases, but we’re looking forward to a brighter new year and to continue our work with Sony on future projects.”

The Charity Golf Day event is part of Sony UK TEC’s continued commitment to supporting and enhancing local communities, and the leading brand plan to hold other events and initiatives, annually, to continue raising funds for their nominated charity.
