Snowdon Mountain Railway will reopen on March 29, with diesel trains initially travelling to its early season destination Clogwyn Station, three-quarters of the distance up Snowdon, Yr Wyddfa.
The summit service is due to recommence and Hafod Eryri, the UK’s highest visitor centre, will reopen on May 1. The steam trains will resume service a few weeks later on June 9, running on weekdays until September 12.
The organisation said that its teams of permanent and seasonal staff have been busy preparing the site for opening and completing winter work, and the Permanent Way team have continued with the essential track maintenance on the upper part of the mountain, battling the harsh winter weather conditions.
Kristian Johnson, the new General Manager at Snowdon Mountain Railway, said:
“Spring has finally arrived, and we are eagerly anticipating the reopening of our railway to welcome passengers for a new season. Our operations and commercial teams have dedicated significant effort in preparing for our 129th season, and we are excited for another bustling year of transporting passengers to Wales's highest peak. It is truly an honour to be a part of this iconic piece of Welsh history.”
The railway runs for 4.7 miles from Llanberis to the summit of Snowdon and is the only rack and pinion railway in the UK. It is a seasonal attraction which operates from April until the end of October.
