Recruitment Professional Goes from Job Seeker to Director

Jessica Nichols dropped in to a recruitment agency 11 years ago, in search of a job and is now director of the Caerphilly-based jobs business

Jessica, aged 29, originally from Caerphilly but now living in Bassaleg, Newport, is director of leading recruitment business Clear Sky.

Educated to AS level Jessica eschewed the more traditional option of A levels followed by university to plunge straight into the world of work.

Now, more than a decade on, the go-ahead recruitment professional is forging a valuable and rewarding career as head of one of the fastest and most successful recruitment businesses in Wales.

Jessica said:

“I originally went to the agency to see what work they had available. I was later offered an interview to work as an office junior within the agency itself.  It has now been 11 years and during this time, I have learnt a lot about the industry and have increased in confidence.

“I really enjoy working with various clients to ensure that we place the best candidates in their workplace. I deal with single bookings to high volume requirements. I enjoy the buzz of the role as every day is different.

“Although I didn’t have a business degree behind me, I was able to learn on the job and work hard to progress within the business. I was very fortunate to get a mortgage on my own home at the age of 21 and this wouldn’t have been achievable had I not have worked for a company who allowed me to develop my skills and grow within the role.”

Jessica, who enjoys travelling, going on long walks and cooking, advises others thinking of going straight into work rather than further education or university to weigh up their options.

“It really comes down to what job or career you are looking at. What prospects there are for progression and what job you are looking to gain in the future, however there are so many opportunities to learn on the job also, so it really depends on what you think works best for you.”

Clear Sky Recruitment Managing Director Ross Porter said:

“Jessica is a hard working and meticulous recruitment professional who has a proven record for service delivery and a sound knowledge of the local labour market.

“I am delighted to work with Jessica as my fellow director at Clear Sky Recruitment. She is a friendly and capable recruitment professional with an unsurpassed dedication to customer service and a real asset for the further development of our business.”
