The North Wales-based adventure company behind the fastest zip line in the world has announced a record turnover and profit as it launches its latest attraction to visitors.

Zip World has enjoyed its most successful financial year to date since it was founded in 2013 and is on track to deliver £17million turnover – a 20% increase compared to this time last year.

The record financial figures have been revealed as the company launches its new £1million adrenaline experience, Quarry Karts. Situated on the edge of Penrhyn slate quarry, visitors can challenge each other down a 1500ft+ high Welsh mountain at a 10% gradient descent reaching speeds of up to 40mph.

The three-wheeled mountain carts are gravity fuelled, with a low centre of gravity and independent hydraulic disc brakes to provide riders with the control needed to drift around corners and navigate obstacles along the bespoke three-kilometre dirt track.

Quarry Karts has created 20 jobs at the company including key on site team members and marketing appointments at its head office in Llanrwst. This is in addition to the 400-staff that Zip World employ to accommodate the peak periods, with 93% of the workforce living locally.

Zip World has contributed £251million to the Welsh economy over the last five years and it is predicted that the newest attraction will help increase the overall contribution by at least 10-15%.

Zip World president and co-founder, Sean Taylor said:

“We’re no strangers to world firsts at Zip World, so it made perfect business sense to be the company that brings the first mountain cart experience to the UK.  We love the competitive nature of Quarry Karts experience, where families and friends can take on not only nature and gravity but each other as they tear down a 1500-ft+ high mountain – the views alone are stunning!

“Our latest financial figures show what can be achieved through diversification, a strong, community-minded business model and, most importantly, hardworking and passionate employees. As a proud Welshman, it is hugely important to see the business continuing to contribute to the local economy as it has done so significantly over the years.

“Costing just £39, this adventure has mass market appeal from across UK as one of the first Zip World experiences people try.”

This is the latest attraction from Zip World which has 12 adventures across three locations in North Wales with experiences including Bounce Below a unique subterranean bouncy nets system in slate caverns, Fforest Coaster the UK’s only alpine coaster and a variety of the fastest and longest zip lines.

The adventure business also has plans to expand into the south Wales valleys with three new zip lines.  For more information and to book tickets visit https://www.zipworld.co.uk/adventure/quarry-karts    or call 01248 601 444.
