Upcycling Business Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary

A business which upcycles coffee grounds into sustainable spirits is marking its fifth anniversary with a series of achievements.

Launched in 2021 by retired consultant psychiatrist Dr Rosie Oretti, Grounds for Good was founded with the primary aim of utilising what would otherwise be considered waste. The business transforms used coffee grounds into new, innovative, and sustainable retail products. A proportion of their profits helps support Llamau – a charity supporting young people, women and children at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

Marking the milestone, Penarth-based Grounds for Good recently secured a silver medal in the bitters and mixers category at the 2026 London Spirits Competition for its Aperoffi liqueur. The award is judged not only on taste, but also on value for money and shelf appeal – key factors that drive consumer purchasing decisions.

Alongside this win, the business has been shortlisted for the Small Business Britain Awards as one of just eight finalists for the Net Hero Award, recognising businesses with an exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability. Winners will be announced at a ceremony held in London on 21 May 2026.

Dr Rosie Oretti, founder of Grounds for Good, said:

“When we launched Grounds for Good, the aim was simple – to turn waste into something positive. Five years on, we’ve not only created a sustainable product range, but also built a business that supports people in real need through our partnership with Llamau. To receive recognition like this while staying true to that mission is incredibly rewarding.”

Grounds for Good is a member of Comercity, a cross-sector business network based in South Wales founded by commercial banking expert Jonathan Cave.

Jonathan added:

“Grounds for Good is a truly innovative business and I’m delighted that it is one of the founding members of Comercity. Its work spans multiple sectors – much like Comercity does – and Rosie has used the opportunity to share her offering with a number of members within our network.

“I wish her all the best for another stellar five years and beyond.”
