From Instagram masterclasses to top tips on cyber security, legal considerations and funding opportunities, over 300 small businesses in Swansea have registered to benefit from a series of free online workshops since they were first launched in July last year.
Organised by Swansea Council’s business support team, the workshops include a monthly start-up enterprise club targeted at people thinking about starting a business or new businesses that have been trading for two years or less.
Run by local business experts, attending the club also enables access to free online training materials, inclusion in a Swansea business directory and membership of a business networking group.
Other council business support includes power hour, 60-minute online sessions, covering a range of topics relevant to businesses.
Next up from 10am to 11.30am on Thursday June 9 is a session focusing on best practice for hiring staff and recruiting, led by Suzanne Cullen of Evolved HR.
Then on Wednesday June 29 from 10am until 11am there’s a workshop about human resources law essentials, led by Paul Shuttleworth from DJM Solicitors.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Investment and Tourism, said:
“The number of businesses registering to attend these online workshops shows the council is catering for a need in our small business community to provide expert-led support in areas including social media, law, human resources, websites and funding opportunities.
“We very much recognise the contribution both start-up and established businesses make to Swansea’s economy, which is why we’ll continue to do all we can to help.
“The entrepreneurial talent in Swansea, combined with the amount of regeneration taking place, means this a great time to invest in our city, so we stand ready to provide any business support that’s needed.”
Other areas covered by the start-up club and power hour workshops in recent months include branding and e-marketing.
Businesses looking to explore online workshops or book a place are asked to visit the City and County of Swansea’s event page on Eventbrite.
