North Wales Food Business Announces Expansion Plans and Record Results

Market-leading expert supply partner Middledale Foods has announced significant expansion plans that will shape the next phase of the North Wales-headquartered business's growth.

The specialist ingredients company, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, will invest across its operations, people and infrastructure to expand capacity, strengthen capability and support increasing demand from food manufacturers across the UK.

The strategy follows the strongest financial performance in the company's history, with Middledale Foods reporting record turnover of £31.2 million in its latest financial year (FY25). The results build on a sustained period of commercial growth, during which turnover has more than doubled and EBITDA increased by 133% over the last three years (FY22-FY25), decisively exceeding previous targets.

Building on this momentum, Middledale Foods is targeting turnover of £52 million and EBIT of £1.5 million by FY28. Combining the governance and capability of a larger organisation with the agility of an SME, the strategy will accelerate investment across the business, strengthening the foundations for the next phase of its growth.

Founded by Nigel Salsbury in 1996, Middledale Foods was established to master the complex supply of bulk, short shelf-life dairy ingredients – a niche then largely overlooked.

Under the leadership of Managing Director Sarah Summers, the business has advanced beyond its dairy roots to become a multi-category ingredients partner, providing a portfolio of dairy, egg, plant-based and functional ingredients.

Managing Director of Middledale Foods, Sarah Summers, said:

“Reaching our 30th anniversary is a milestone we're incredibly proud of, but our focus is firmly on what comes next. Every stage of our growth has been guided by a commitment to building a stronger business that continues to deliver for our customers and manufacturing partners.

“Everything we've achieved has been made possible by the dedication of our team, the trust our customers place in us and the strength of the manufacturing partnerships we've built over the past three decades. Through continued investment in people, systems, expertise and innovation, we're broadening our specialist ingredients offering and strengthening the capabilities that enable us to deliver innovative, partnership-led ingredient solutions and support our customers for many years to come.”
