Bisley has been awarded a multi-million pound three-year contract for student accommodation.
The contract will see the Newport firm supply and install all associated furniture in student bedrooms, kitchens, Social Hubs and Living areas for the University of Sussex, via Balfour Beatty.
This award is part of a £200 million construction project that Bisley has been engaged in for the last three years, working through a rigorous design and tender campaign.
West Slope will add almost 2,000 new student accommodation rooms to the existing East Slope campus, as well as over 250 kitchens, a new supermarket, café, and study spaces. West Slope also features a brand-new Health and Wellbeing Centre, which is due to open in 2026, and will bring together NHS services and the university wellbeing services at the heart of campus.
In line with the university’s mission to be one of the most sustainable in the world, The West Slope Residences will be built to BREEAM Excellent standards with green roofs, water recycling and solar panels. Bisley said it was proud to be positively contributing to the University’s BREEAM criteria, both with its manufactured products and from its dedicated supply chain.
The contract win for Bisley comes after a period of growth and diversification for the firm, which has included secured contracts worth £2 million with two of the world’s biggest firms in Tesla and Amazon, as well as a multi-million pound four-year framework with BT Group.

The firm said the achievement was a testimony to the hard work and focus of Bisley’s bid team consisting of Sales, Design, Operations and Purchasing, led by Graeme Mathews, Bisley Group Project Director.
Graeme said:
“This was a fantastic team effort from many individuals, working collaboratively together over the last three years. We are delighted to be supporting Balfour Beatty in delivering a first class, truly sustainable project for the University of Sussex.”
Richard Costin, CEO of Bisley, said:
“This is a key milestone for Bisley that demonstrates our clear commitment and focus to this sector, and to Balfour Beatty as a valued customer. Although Bisley is historically well known for our high-quality made in the UK reputation in steel storage, this continued ongoing channel and product diversification supports our strategy and evolution, as well as highlighting the importance of UK manufacturing.”
Work on The West Slope Residencies begins in August 2025.
