New Hospital Director for HMT Sancta Maria Hospital

Swansea’s only private hospital, HMT Sancta Maria Hospital, has appointed a new Hospital Director to lead the organisation through its transition from its current Uplands site to its new purpose-built facility in SA1.

Geoff Bailey has more than 30 years’ experience in the global pharmaceutical industry having held senior roles within GlaxoSmithKline and Bayer. He has a wealth of international healthcare experience having held roles in the Philippines, Thailand, Germany and the UAE. Most recently he was Hospital Director at a private hospital in Brighton and then went on to set up a training consultancy specialising in decision making, called ZYX…Delivering Hindsight.

His background is firmly rooted in strategic marketing and commercial leadership and he hopes to apply his considerable experience to leading Sancta Maria through such an exciting time in its history.

Commenting on his appointment, Geoff said:

“The opportunity to join Sancta Maria Hospital while it makes its most significant development to date was too good to miss. This unique opportunity to join a forward-thinking and ambitious organisation like HMT is really exciting and I look forward to meeting the hospital’s stakeholders and the local community in the coming months.

“My key focus is on building the customer experience and to continue to provide exemplary healthcare at our current Uplands hospital while looking ahead to the developments we can make in our new state-of-the-art facility in SA1. I want to develop our relationships with primary and secondary care providers and work collaboratively with them to achieve common goals.”

Tony Barrett, Chief Executive of Healthcare Management Trust which operates Sancta Maria Hospital, adds:

“Geoff’s appointment is a key part of our growth and development strategy in Swansea and we are pleased to welcome him to the HMT team. His considerable experienced and well-respected profile within the industry is a boon for Sancta Maria Hospital and we are confident that he will flourish as the much anticipated SA1 hospital comes to fruition in 2020.”

A building contractor for the new hospital has recently been appointed with work anticipated to start on site in March 2019. The new hospital, situated on Fabian Way, will offer state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment including an MRI scanner, digital x-ray and fluoroscopy unit. The new facility will open its doors in 2020.

Sancta Maria, currently based in Swansea’s Uplands, is owned and operated by not-for-profit Healthcare Management Trust.
