New Food and Social Destination Launched in Newport City Centre

A major new food, drink and social destination in Newport aims to become a significant driver of city centre footfall, independent business growth and regional economic activity.

The Market brings together a mix of independent food traders and creative brands under one roof in Kingsway Centre. The Market will open every Saturday from 8am-6pm and Sunday from 9am-5pm.

The project forms part of a wider vision for the Kingsway Centre, alongside Little Kingdom, helping reposition the city centre around destination leisure and experience-led retail. The aim is to create reasons for people to come into the city centre, spend more time there and use Newport as a place to meet, socialise and support independent businesses.

The Kingsway Centre was purchased by entrepreneur Niall Leighton-Boyce in 2024. Since acquisition, significant investment has gone into renovating units, securing occupiers, negotiating deals and creating commercially sustainable concepts designed to increase activity and confidence within the city centre.

The Market's team says the project has been designed to provide independent traders with access to significantly higher footfall, increased brand exposure and a collaborative environment that allows smaller businesses to scale more sustainably.

“We wanted to create something that not only delivers a great customer experience, but genuinely contributes to the wider Newport economy,” said Niall Leighton-Boyce.

“The Market is about creating a venue that attracts people into the city for longer periods of time, supports independent operators and gives brands a platform to grow. We believe projects like this are key to increasing confidence and investment within the city centre. We've listened to the people of Newport who want more personal experiences, more independent businesses and better access to fresh local produce, rather than another generic retail offering.”

The venue has already secured partnerships with recognised national brands including AU Vodka and Tiny Rebel, along with multiple independent food stalls, butchers, crafts and more.

Alongside its food and drink offering, The Market will also host regular live entertainment, with live music, DJs and events planned every weekend to create an energetic social atmosphere and encourage repeat visits throughout the year. The team believe this consistent entertainment programme will play a key role in increasing dwell time, strengthening the economy and positioning Newport as a stronger regional leisure destination.
