A state-of-the-art, 4,400 sq ft strength and performance gym is the fourth fitness business to open at Mamhilad Park Estate this year.
Gareth Betts Strength and Performance was previously based at Cwmbran Stadium. Gareth is a former professional rugby player with Ebbw Vale and Newport RFCs as well as Pontypool RFC, where he is now the strength and conditioning coach.
The gym, which is fully equipped with a 3G area with a shock pad, a 25-metre running track, power racks, free weights and an analysis room, is the eighteenth wellbeing businesses to choose to locate at Mamhilad Park Estate. Others include psychotherapy and counselling services, physiotherapy, floatation therapy, aesthetics and beauty practitioners, a chiropractor and a company specialising in dyslexia assessment and support, all based within its dedicated Wellbeing Hub or elsewhere on the 140-acre business park.
Gareth’s gym follows three other fitness businesses opening at Mamhilad Park Estate already this year – Perfect Balance, a reformer pilates studio, plus Mamau Ffit and En-Core Fitness, both of which focus on women’s fitness.

“I’m delighted with the fitout and the location, which is ideal for the Pontypool squad as well as the local schools and youth teams I’m involved with,” said Gareth.
“Having everything we need in one space to optimise performance through strength and conditioning is ideal.”
Mamhilad Park Estate first launched its Wellbeing Hub – a wing of Mamhilad House – in July 2025 and soon had to expand with the opening of a second wing in December last year. Now the team of on-site owner-managers is targeting specific sectors to complement the existing health and wellbeing offer.
“A big part of the Wellbeing Hub’s attraction for local businesses looking to start up or scale up has been to co-locate with other, complementary operators,” explains Mike Whitson of Johnsey Estates UK Ltd, owner of Mamhilad Park Estate.
“Their clients really like the fact that they can come here, park easily and access a range of fitness and therapeutic services all in one place – and in a green, tranquil setting.
“We now have a strong cohort of holistic and emotional therapies plus some physical therapists in place, too – and the physical fitness offer has really taken shape this year.
“We’re now looking to add a local chiropody business as well as a dental practice and GP services so that there really is a top-to-toe offer here for local people’s health and wellbeing.”
The 140-acre Mamhilad Park Estate, which is already home to a wide variety of sectors, including professional services firms, creative studios, high security businesses, manufacturing, emergency services and NHS healthcare units. Its 1.4 million square feet of office and industrial space also includes a café, nursery, gym and hair and beauty salons as well as training and meeting rooms and extensive storage facilities.
