New Affordable Homes Delivered at Carn y Cefn Development

The housebuilder behind the Carn y Cefn development in Ebbw Vale and a local housing association have marked their agreement to deliver more affordable homes on the site.

Persimmon Homes East Wales has handed over six properties to United Welsh.

They were joined on-site by the town’s Member of the Senedd, Alun Davies MS, and Cllr Helen Cunningham, Deputy Leader of Blaenau Gwent Council.

The handover brings the total number of homes transferred to United Welsh at the development closer to the 76 that will be delivered in total.

Once complete, Persimmon will have delivered 265 homes with on-site play areas and sports pitches at the development.

The accredited five-star housebuilder currently has two, three, and four-bed homes available to purchase on the open market at Carn y Cefn, available from £199,995.

Lee Hawker, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes East Wales, said:

“Persimmon is delighted to partner once again with United Welsh after establishing a positive relationship with them across multiple sites over the years.

“Tackling the housing crisis requires a positive and collaborative approach, and we were pleased to welcome Alun Davies MS and Cllr Helen Cunningham to site so he could see this in action.

“We're committed to working closely with our housing association partners such as United Welsh, and the local authority, to deliver high-quality new homes for local people in Ebbw Vale and right across Blaenau Gwent.”

Victoria Bolton, Director of Development and Regeneration at United Welsh, said:

“We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Persimmon Homes to deliver high-quality, affordable homes for people in Blaenau Gwent.

“The handover of these six properties at Carn y Cefn marks another important step in our shared commitment to tackling housing need in the area.

“We look forward to continuing our work with Persimmon and Blaenau Gwent Council to make sure that more people in Ebbw Vale and beyond have access to safe, secure, and affordable homes.”

Alun Davies MS – Member of the Senedd for Blaenau Gwent – said:

“I was pleased to join Persimmon, United Welsh and Cllr Helen Cunningham to mark the handover of new homes at Carn y Cefn.

“These properties will provide much-needed homes for local people, and this development is a good example of all partners working together to deliver homes for the community.”

Cllr Helen Cunningham, Deputy Leader of Blaenau Gwent Council, also said:

“The council is committed to development that reflects local needs and helps people to live in quality affordable homes.

“We welcome local developers and housing associations delivering collaboratively in this way. In a housing crisis, it is vital we work with our partners to secure much needed social and affordable homes.

“I was pleased to discuss with Persimmon Homes and United Welsh how that can be done for the benefit of the people of Blaenau Gwent.”

Persimmon also donates £700,000 each year to good causes and much-valued organisations across Britain each year as part of its Community Champions scheme. Recent local recipients include Blaenau Gwent’s Connected Communities, Heads of the Valleys ABC, and Kidz R Us Tredegar. In July, Persimmon employees visited pupils at Beaufort Primary School for a careers event.
