South Wales is set to strengthen its position as a global leader in the semiconductor sector with the launch of the £1 million Compound Semiconductor Supply Chain Development Programme, funded by the Cardiff Capital Region.
The initiative aims to enhance local supply chains, foster collaboration, and drive economic growth in the region.
Managed by CSconnected, the programme is designed to support suppliers and buyers within the compound semiconductor sector. By encouraging companies to source locally and invest in advanced manufacturing, the initiative seeks to build a more resilient and competitive ecosystem for South Wales' thriving semiconductor cluster.
Hazel Hung, Business Development Manager at CSconnected , highlighted the Programme’s potential to transform the region's supply chain landscape.
“The Compound Semiconductor Supply Chain Development Programme provides a unique opportunity to strengthen links between core semiconductor firms in South Wales and their suppliers or buyers. By encouraging companies to work with advanced manufacturing businesses on their doorstep, we can create high-skilled jobs, retain talent, and support economic growth locally.”
The programme is open to companies across the semiconductor supply chain, from advanced manufacturing services and industrial suppliers to design tool developers and raw material providers. Grants of up to £100,000 are available, with a 50% match funding requirement, allowing participants to invest in new equipment, enhance their productivity, or develop innovative solutions.
The Programme’s focus spans two key areas:
- Upstream – Supporting existing or potential suppliers to improve competitiveness and capacity.
- Downstream – Attracting buyers and encouraging collaborations with South Wales’ semiconductor cluster.
An official in-person launch event is scheduled on 6 March 2025, offering attendees a chance to network and learn more about the opportunities available. Companies interested in the Programme can register their interest via an online form, which includes details of how to contact the CSconnected team for more information.
Hazel added:
“This initiative represents a significant step forward for the region. It’s not just about building a supply chain; it’s about building a future for South Wales as a global leader in compound semiconductors.”
