The very best of Neath Port Talbot’s construction industry gathered at The Towers Hotel and Spa on Friday 22nd February for the annual Building Control Awards sponsored by Neath based Seven Oaks Modular.

The awards seek to reward good building practice and to that end Neath Port Talbot Council Building Control surveyors nominated builders they considered to have excelled in the last twelve months in categories ranging from domestic alterations and extensions through to large commercial developments.

Winning projects included the development of an apartment block on top of ground floor commercial units at Port Talbot’s former police station by Morganstone Ltd (Best Social/Affordable Housing category) and the construction of one of the county borough’s latest new schools, Ysgol Bro Dur in Sandfields, by Bouygues UK Ltd (Best Inclusive Building).

Neath Port Talbot Council Leader, Cllr Rob Jones, who presented the awards, said:

“These awards are now one of the main events in the Council’s calendar.  Once again they have been very well supported by local businesses and all those nominated can feel proud of their achievements.”

Paul Davis, Building Control Manager at Neath Port Talbot added:

“Building Control and the construction industry as a whole has been under the spotlight since the Grenfell disaster.  These awards serve as a reminder of what collaboration and good practice can achieve.”

Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet member for Regeneration and Sustainable Development, Cllr Annette Wingrave, said:

“Builders do not always benefit from good media coverage – after all the bad ones make better TV – but these awards recognise the many quality builders out there.

“The awards are for everyone, and we have nominations ranging from local builders through to national contractors.”
