Two teams from Monmouthshire Building Society are challenging themselves and each other to raise as much funds as possible for its chosen charity St David's Hospice – with one team taking on a Dragon Boat Race and the other walking the South Wales Three Peaks.

The teams are going head to head against each other to see who can raise the most money for St David's Hospice, as part of the Building Society's year-long fundraising drive.

First to take on a challenge are the Mon BS Savings Slayers. The team is made up of colleagues from across all departments of the Society who are taking part in the Hospice's Dragon Boat Race, at Llandegfedd Lake on 27 June.

Combining teamwork, stamina and sheer grit, Adam Grey, Beata Michaliszyn-Wasiak, Clare Brown, Gareth Downward, Hristina Winstanley, Katalin Klein, Kristy Maloney, Marli Miller, Mat Llewelyn, Mel Barts and Richard Connor will take to the water. They will race over 250m with various prizes for placing first, second and third, as well as best dressed and best team name, as well as a wooden spoon for last place.

The team has a target of £1,000 it wants to raise before they take to the water – but donations are also welcome after the event.

Then in July, the second fundraising team from Monmouthshire Building Society will be strapping up their walking boots, as four members of the Building Society's Senior Leadership and Exec teams take on the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge.

Will Carroll, Julian Bill, Martyn Jenkins and Richard Thomas will be walking Pen Y Fan, Sugarloaf and Twmbarlwn over 10 hours – supported and driven by Iestyn Evans, again, to raise money for the Building Society's Headline Charity partner, St David's Hospice Care.Mon BS Savings Slayers team (LtR) Adam Grey, Richard Connor, Kristy Maloney, Katalin Klein, Hristina Winstanley, Melissa Barts, Clare Brown.

The team have a sponsorship goal of £800 – but like the other team, would welcome donations at any time.

Mon BS Savings Slayers team member and the Building Society's Head of Savings, Kristy Maloney, said:

“We have had such a great time preparing and training for the Dragon Boat Race and it's so wonderful to get different people from around the Society to take part in these challenges.

“Adding a bit of internal competition, has also helped with our fundraising efforts. It's been such great fun seeing the Peaks team doing all they can to drum up donations – while we do the same for our challenge. It's all for a wonderful cause, so let the donating commence.”
