Mission Green Grant Equips Big Pool Wood Volunteers

Volunteers helping maintain Big Pool Wood in Gronant have accessed a fund supporting environmental projects in the area.

They successfully applied to Mission Green Prestatyn, an initiative offered by Castle Green Homes linked to its Sŵn y Môr development. With the donation they have purchased a new drill and driver.

Volunteer Pete Scarll said:

“We have a team of volunteers who regularly hold work parties to carry out maintenance and repair on bird hides, fencing and boardwalks at Big Pool Wood, all of which helps ensure safety and enjoyment for the many visitors to the reserve. Maintenance is carried out regularly and while North Wales Wildlife Trust have equipment they loan to volunteers across 16 reserves, sometimes tools are being used elsewhere. We applied for Mission Green so we can have access to our own equipment which will make carrying out repairs easier.”

Projects with an emphasis on sustainability, the environment, health and wellbeing were invited to apply to Mission Green Prestatyn, with grants made to 11 good causes.

Castle Green Homes sales director Sian Pitt said:

“As a homebuilder we understand how important it is to have the right tools. We were pleased to be able to equip the Big Pool Wood volunteers with a new drill and drivers so they can help ensure the nature reserve can be enjoyed by local residents. Exploring the walking trails, listening to the birds and getting close to nature can help support health and wellbeing, so supporting the volunteers ticked every box in the criteria for Mission Green.”

Other beneficiaries of Mission Green Prestatyn were Craft Club, Fins Swim School, Denbighshire Play Ranger Service, Helping Homeless North Wales, Ysgol Clawdd Offa, Little Explorers and Friends, Prestatyn in Bloom, Friends of Coronation Gardens and Ysgol Gronant.

The Mission Green funding is in addition to the community investment Castle Green will make under a Section 106 agreement signed during the planning process.
