Military Homes in Wales Could Benefit from Funding to Upgrade Accommodation

Service Family Accommodation (SFA) homes in Wales will be considered for investment announced in the Strategic Defence Review (SDR).

The UK Government's SDR confirmed an additional £1.5 billion in funding for military accommodation across the UK. There are around 800 SFA homes in Wales.

The new funding for forces family homes is part of £7 billion being invested UK-wide in military accommodation.

The UK Government said the funding will mean that personnel in Wales will see more urgent repairs and maintenance, from fixing unreliable boilers and leaky roofs to tackling damp and mould in service family accommodation, alongside development of new housing.

Secretary of State for Wales, Jo Stevens MP said:

“I warmly welcome this action to address the urgent repairs and facilitate the development of new housing for service families across Wales. Our 800 forces family homes will benefit from a much-needed investment uplift, as part of an overall £7 billion in funding this Parliament.

“Through initiatives such as the Reducing Veterans Homelessness programme and the establishment of an Armed Forces Commissioner for Wales, we continue to ensure that those who have served receive the support and recognition they deserve. This is a UK Government delivering for Veterans and their families.”

The SDR says that the MOD should improve the overall standard of military accommodation, including prioritising sites that are in most urgent need of repair.
