A housebuilder which is building new homes in Newport has delivered boxes of chocolate to staff at a local care home.

Bellway, which is building new homes at Herons Mead in Llanwern and Greystone Meadows in Undy, has donated over 30 boxes of Hotel Chocolat chocolates to Blaen-Y-Pant House, an assisted living facility in Newport.

The housebuilder delivered the chocolates to workers at the care home in support of their hard work throughout the lockdown period.

Blaen-Y-Pant House, which is the home to up to 32 residents aged fifty and above, works to provide specialist residential services including dementia care.

Residential Homes Manager at Blaen-Y-Pant House, Scott Hereford, said:

“I am very proud of the team at Blaen y Pant for the amazing care and support that they have provided to our most vulnerable adults during this time of crisis.

“They have bravely continued to work; without giving a second thought to their own well-being. It is thanks to their sacrifices that we continue to have a well-functioning home.

“It is heart-warming to see the best of people coming out throughout the service as we’ve never seen a pandemic of this magnitude.

“As a service we have had to face many challenges during the pandemic, which have included staff having to wear full PPE at all times during the hot weather, and maintaining effective infection control practices to ensure any confirmed cases are contained in order to reduce the risk of spreading the infection across the home. To date we have achieved this whereby each confirmed case the resident has come though the other side and they continue to be well.

“The staff have worked long hours, including taking on additional shifts and taking on multiple job roles within the home. Staff continue to have increased worries of contracting the virus which they could potentially pass on to family members.

“We’d like to thank Bellway for providing over 30 boxes of chocolates to the team to which we are very grateful for their kind donation and their support during this time.”

There is currently a range of three and four-bedroom homes available at Greystone Meadows and Herons Mead, which are now open for viewing on an appointment basis.
