Historic Property in Cardiff’s Roath Park Available to Lease

An historic property in Roath Park, once occupied by members of the family which helped develop many of Cardiff's parks and green spaces, is now available to lease.

Roath Park House forms part of the Roath Park Trust. Cardiff Council, in its role as sole trustee of the charity, is seeking expressions of interest from individuals, businesses and organisations interested in bringing the property back into use for community, recreation, leisure or wellbeing purposes.

The two-storey property in Roath Pleasure Gardens was built in 1897 as the residence for the Parks Superintendent at the time, William Wallace Pettigrew. William Pettigrew managed the early development of Roath Park. Recently refurbished, the 1,220sq ft property comes with extensive outdoor space.

Roath Park House is built on land that was conveyed to the council by the Marquess of Bute in 1889. The land is held in charitable trust for the purposes of public recreation and pleasure grounds.

Following approval earlier this year, expressions of interest are being sought with a closing date of August 28, 2026. All expressions of interest will then be evaluated and subject to a period of public engagement, before a recommendation on the future of the property is made by a ‘Trusts Committee of Cabinet', followed by an application to the Charity Commission to provide the final decision.

This committee was established under new arrangements designed to ensure a clear separation of the council's role as Trustee from the Council's ordinary statutory functions and to ensure that any conflicts of interest that may arise in the future are effectively managed, in line with Charity Commission guidance.

Roath Park House is being marketed on behalf of the Roath Park Trust by Cooke & Arkwright. More information about the property is available here: https://m.search-prop.com/roath-park-house-cardiff
