Gower College Swansea Launches Wales’ First Floorcovering Training Facility

Gower College Swansea is strengthening its position as Wales’ only floor covering apprenticeship provider, with the opening of a new, industry-focused training facility designed to meet the growing demand across the flooring industry.

This purpose-built space, located at the college’s Jubilee Court campus in Fforestfach, has been developed to support the delivery of the Level 2 Floorcovering apprenticeship, a specialist programme designed to equip apprentices with the skills, technical expertise and practical experience to progress in the trade.

To mark the opening, the college will also be opening its doors to employers, inviting them to drop in and explore the new facilities on Wednesday 13 May.

The new flooring facility has been created in direct response to growing demand from employers and the wider sector. It provides a dedicated, industry-standard environment where learners can refine their techniques, gain hands-on experience, and upskill in line with current professional practices.

Lucy Bird, Commercial Manager at Gower College Swansea, said:

“The opening of this new facility is a significant step forward for the college. As the only provider of this apprenticeship in Wales, we have a responsibility to ensure the highest standards of training and support for our learners and employers. This dedicated space allows our trainers to deliver hands-on, industry-relevant teaching that reflects real working environments, while also giving employers confidence that their staff are developing the skills needed to succeed.”

Neil Brayshaw, Interim Director of Work Based Learning at the College, added:

“Gower College Swansea is delighted to offer this brand-new industry standard facility to support the skills needs within the flooring industry. We look forward to welcoming employers to our drop-in day to showcase the facility, discuss skills requirements with our delivery and leadership team, as well as how the College can support your business’ growth through bespoke training and apprenticeships.”

Keith Aspinwall of Heritage Carpet and Flooring Ltd said:

“I would like to express my delight in having a Floorcovering apprenticeship at Gower College Swansea, which has been long overdue in the industry. I took on an apprentice 18 months ago and I am delighted to report in how well he’s done under the delivery team, with feedback provided monthly.

“The apprenticeship covers a multitude of tasks from self-levelling to the finished floor, and I would highly encourage employers to enrol apprentices on the course.”

Places can be reserved at the drop-in day by using this booking link.
