Sport Caerphilly is encouraging community sport clubs across Caerphilly County Borough to apply for the 2025-26 Facility Grant, with funding still available to support capital improvements that enhance local sporting environments.
The grant, funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and aligned to the ambitions of the Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019-2029, offers up to £2,500 per club to improve facilities, strengthen long term sustainability and create more welcoming and inclusive community spaces.
So far, more than £52,000 has been awarded to community sport clubs, supporting 24 applications across nine different sports. Investments to date include £25,000 towards clubhouse repairs, £10,000 for storage solutions, £7,500 for kitchen refurbishments and £5,000 for pitch and ground maintenance equipment. These improvements are already helping clubs increase capacity, improve safety and offer better experiences for their members.
Applications have slowed in recent months, and clubs are encouraged to apply while funding remains available.
Eligible clubs must operate within Caerphilly County Borough, operate under a recognised club constitution, and either own their facility or hold a lease with at least five years remaining. All applications must demonstrate a capital improvement or purchase.
Given programme deadlines, successful clubs must be able to deliver projects quickly, with all allocated funding required to be spent by January 2026. Due to the short turnaround, projects should focus on smaller scale items rather than major works, for example white goods, containers or maintenance equipment.
Councillor Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said:
“Local sports clubs are the backbone of our communities, and this grant is an important opportunity to strengthen the places where people come together to play, train and stay active. We have already seen the difference this funding is making across the borough, and we want more clubs to benefit. If you have a project that will improve your facility, please get your application in. Funding is available now, but projects need to be delivered quickly to meet spending deadlines.”
Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis until the budget is fully allocated. Grants are discretionary and subject to available funds.
