People in Powys are being invited to attend a free training programme which could help them turn their business ideas into reality.

The Pathways to Enterprise programme is also designed to help anyone who wants to help get a community project off the ground.

The free programme, which runs in May and June, is being delivered by small business experts Robert Owen Community Finance, based in Newtown, with partners PAVO (Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations) and PURPLE shoots.

“We’re really trying to help people with an idea for a business or a community project but really haven’t got the knowledge where to start,”

explained Jackie Milton Operations Manager with Robert Owen Community Finance.

“You may be thinking about moving from employment to self-employment, or looking to build your confidence after being out of work.

“Or you may simply want to sharpen your skills to help your local community, “

added Ms Milton.

“Whatever your motivation, the Pathways programme is the ideal place to explore your ambitions.”

The first workshop in the Pathways to Enterprise programme is called Starting Out In Business and it takes place on 22 May, 2019 at the Pryce Jones Building, 17 Old Kerry Road, Newtown from 10am to 2.30pm.

“It’s a no jargon, no nonsense introduction to business for anyone who has an idea for one but doesn’t know how or where to begin,”

she explained.

Three other free workshops in the Pathways programme at the same location will follow. On 29 May the workshop will focus on Business Planning Essentials, on 5 June it will offer An introduction to Self-Reliant Groups, and on 12 June the subject will be Fundraising Essentials.

All four free workshops take place from 10am to 2.30pm.

Funding for the programme comes from Arwain, the LEADER programme in Powys through the Rural Development Plan for Wales as part of the Welsh Government and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

Robert Owen Community Finance is part of Robert Owen Community Banking Fund, which provides a range of loans to small and start-up businesses, and operates the Enterprise Finance Guarantee (EFG) scheme.
