A disused former railway site in Bridgend is set to be transformed into 21 energy-efficient homes for social rent, as Bridgend-based housing association, Valleys to Coast, moves forward with plans for Croft Goch Road, Kenfig Hill.
The development will regenerate a brownfield site with historic railway use, bringing redundant land back into productive use while supporting local housing needs. The scheme is being delivered with support from Bridgend County Borough Council, which played a key role in securing funding through the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant programme.
Blaenavon-based contractor P&P Builders has been appointed to deliver the scheme, which will provide a mix of one-bedroom flats and two, three, and four-bedroom houses, designed to meet a range of local housing needs.
Alongside the residential development, ecological enhancements will be delivered on land adjacent to the site, supporting biodiversity and creating a more sustainable local environment.
The site is well located to support sustainable living, with active travel links connecting residents to Pyle, North Cornelly and Kenfig Hill, as well as access to local schools, shops and Pyle railway station.
Sustainability is central to the scheme, with homes to be built using modern methods of construction (MMC) timber frames, alongside air source heat pumps and solar PV systems to reduce carbon emissions and help lower energy costs for residents.
The development will also deliver wider community benefits, including a contribution of approximately £40,000 towards local education facility improvements and £20,000 towards enhancements to recreation facilities. In addition, £13,500 in community benefits funding will be invested in local initiatives.

Enabling works, including road construction, are already underway, with the first homes expected to be completed by late 2027.
Valleys to Coast provides over 6,000 affordable homes across Bridgend and Rhondda Cynon Taf, alongside a portfolio of commercial properties and leasehold flats. It was established in 2003 as the first large-scale voluntary transfer of council-owned homes to a social housing association in Wales. Last year, it published its growth plans, with five new strategies driven by increasing customer and colleague satisfaction.
