First Manufacturing Apprentices Join Knauf Insulation in Queensferry

Knauf Insulation has welcomed the first cohort on its new Manufacturing Apprenticeship programme at the company’s rock mineral wool plant in Queensferry, North Wales.

Rhys Evans, aged 17, and Daniel Riley, aged 20, have joined as the inaugural apprentices.

“This apprenticeship is designed to develop the next generation of skilled operators and to ensure we continue to lead the way in sustainable insulation manufacturing,” said Andrew Evans, Queensferry Plant Manager at Knauf Insulation. “This is particularly important at a time when we have expanded capacity and capability at our existing sites and have announced the location of a new factory that will be just down the road from Queensferry.”

During the programme, Rhys and Daniel will work towards a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Processing Industries Operations and a Level 3 BTEC in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering.

The launch of the apprenticeship follows Knauf Insulation's investment in expanding its manufacturing capacity and technology. This includes a major upgrade of its glass mineral wool plant in St Helens and the plans for a new low-carbon rock mineral wool factory in Shotton, North Wales.
