The regeneration of one of Newport’s most disadvantaged areas is to be led by a Cardiff-based engineering consultancy.
HLN Engineering Ltd, a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, has been commissioned by Newport City Homes to undertake extensive structural and civil engineering work for a scheme that aims to breathe life back into the Pill area of the city.
HLN Engineering will provide key civil and structural engineering support to the landmark Pill regeneration scheme, spear-headed by Newport City Homes.
Known for its extensive work with supermarket giant Tesco, science-based technology company 3M and its involvement in the Tiger Bay regeneration scheme in Cardiff, the consultancy is well positioned for the task ahead.

Managing director David Callaghan said he was proud of the company’s involvement in the Newport scheme:
“We had been aware of plans to revive the Pill area of Newport for quite some time and were quick to involve ourselves in the tender process.
“With extensive experience of major regeneration work, we have the in-house knowledge, resource and expertise to deliver exactly what the scheme requires.
“We recognise the impact the scheme will have on the area and to be so heavily involved is both an honour and a privilege.”
Pill, once a thriving dockland community, suffered an economic downturn due to the decline of heavy industry and manufacturing in the area.
It is hoped that the £10 million regeneration fund, raised by housing association Newport City Homes, will transform the area and hopefully attract further investment.
