Four experienced female entrepreneurs have launched a new business-focused social enterprise where ambitious women can be authentic, share knowledge and grow together without pressure or pretence.
Based in South Wales, SOLASA has been founded by business coach Julia Adams; Rachel Bedgood, CEO of Complete Background Screening; Lorna Griffiths, professional photographer co-founder and creative director of Taylor Griffiths Photography and Art of the Fairytale Creative Studio and Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Lisa Hicks, CEO of SNOAP.
Founded on the principles of support, growth, knowledge and community, SOLASA brings together business owners, professionals and senior leaders who believe that sustainable success is built through collaboration rather than competition.
While rooted in South Wales, the collective welcomes interest from women nationwide who align with its ethos and long-term vision. It’s likely that the movement will expand into other areas over time. The term SOLASA is rooted in the words ‘solace’ and ‘kickass’ to reflect the tone of the community.
“Networking has always been important in business, not simply to gain new work but to build trust and meaningful relationships with people whose services you rely on,” said Rachel Bedgood, “Through SOLASA, we are supporting female-run businesses, sharing ideas, creating a community for change and, hopefully, inspiring the next generation of women in business.
“Solasa was born from our belief that women in business shouldn’t have to navigate success alone,” said Lisa Hicks.
“We wanted to create a trusted network of like-minded professional women who genuinely support one another, sharing knowledge, opening doors and ensuring a level playing field. This community is about strength through collaboration, honest mentorship and the power that comes when women lift each other up.”
“As directors from very different backgrounds with very different experiences we came together after recognising that there is great strength in our differences. This is the corner stone of Solasa. We recognise that women in business often have a desire for community and collaboration which can be missing from traditional networks. Building Solasa as a not-for-profit membership organisation with a strong sense of community really speaks to the successful businesswoman who seeks business allies to stand with her enabling her to be her authentic self in a safe environment. We are creating a space where we all rise together,” said Julia Adams.
Speakers at the launch event included Hannah Williams, CEO of the Alacrity Foundation UK, and Deborah Thomas, creator and host of These Three Things podcast. The launch saw more than 40 women in attendance.
Membership of SOLASA is by application only and is open to business owners, professionals and senior leaders. Membership includes a joining fee and annual subscription, with guest access available for selected events throughout the year.
