With the building industry beginning to recover after the pandemic, all eyes will be on the construction startup of the year category at this year’s Wales Startup Awards to see how new businesses have been developing within the sector.

Sponsored by Evabuild – the fastest growing firm in Wales in 2015 – the construction startup of the year award is open to any start up operating in the construction and building services industry in Wales and the judges will be looking for a new business that has made an immediate and significant impact in the construction sector and has a clear vision for its future success.

Nick Evans, the founder of Evabuild, is passionate about supporting new Welsh businesses to make a difference in the economy. He said,

“Start-ups in Wales are the risk takers in society and are the businesses and wealth creators of the future. They are the ones who will help shape the future of Wales and help grow the economy with innovation and creativity. Entrepreneurship is the primary way to enhance the economic growth of Wales.

“These start-ups create new jobs, new ideas and new technologies, and simply put they are the backbone of the economy. These new businesses deserve and need every ounce of support and promotion possible, and it’s for this reason I am delighted that Evabuild is supporting these awards.”

Last year’s winner was innDex, a new technology company that is offering a growing suite of integrated software and hardware solutions to the construction industry. It was founded in 2018 by two civil engineers – George Smithies and Aaron Vousden – who had become frustrated at the lack of innovation and the adoption of digital tools in the construction industry.

George was recognised last week by Forbes Magazine as one of the “30 under 30” within manufacturing and industry in Europe and believes that winning last year’s award has helped to raise the profile of the business and what it does.

“Winning the construction startup of the year award has been fantastic for innDex and a credit to the whole team,” he said. “The award has heightened people’s awareness of us across the country – it even came up in a conversation with a new client in Australia a few weeks ago.”

“Over the last year we have gone from strength to strength, building on our solid foundation from the year prior! It’s been a challenge in terms of all operating from home and at a distance, but we have been lucky that construction has continued and the whole team has been more motivated than ever to succeed.”

The Wales Start-Up Awards are the only awards in the UK that focus on celebrating the success of new businesses. To enter this year’s awards, companies need to have started trading on or after June 1st 2018 and be based in Wales.
