Electrify Britain Highlights Welsh Electrification Projects Ahead of Rugby Fixture

The Electrify Britain campaign is showcasing how electrification is benefitting communities in Wales.

Electrify Britain CEO Camilla Born MBE visited Welsh electrification projects ahead of Saturday's event with polar athlete and former Wales star Richard Parks at the Electric Brewery Field, where Bridgend Ravens take on Aberavon RFC.

Ahead of kick-off, Electrify Cymru will host a talk with Parks, who recently featured in Will Smith's Disney+ series Pole to Pole. Parks will discuss his latest adventures and a new podcast he is set launch that tells the story of Welsh clubs like Bridgend and Pontypridd.

The week’s events began at Tramshed Tech in Cardiff, where the co-working space uses heat pumps as standard and is implementing  solar plans.

Born then joined a roundtable discussion exploring how electric vehicles, rail projects and home heating upgrades can bring down costs while creating skilled jobs and training opportunities across Wales. A visit to the Transport for Wales Taff's Well depot showcased the latest progress on the South Wales Metro – one of the UK's most extensive electrification projects.

Electrify Rugby Saturday's fixture at The Electric Brewery Field showcases the first electrification-focused sponsorship in Welsh rugby.

Through on-site generation, battery storage and smarter energy management, the club could save hundreds of thousands of pounds over the coming decade, Electrify Britain said.
