Urdd Gobaith Cymru has welcomed the announcement of Cyngor Gwynedd’s bid to host Eisteddfod yr Urdd in 2028.
Llio Maddocks, Director of the Arts at Urdd Gobaith Cymru, said:
“We are delighted to hear that members of Gwynedd Council’s cabinet have formally agreed to offer a home for the 2028 Urdd Eisteddfod, and we are extremely grateful to the local authority for showing such strong support for both the movement and the youth festival.
“We’re in the process of discussing potential locations for the Eisteddfod. We look forward to confirming the festival’s site at a public meeting over the summer and start organising with local volunteers.”
The last time the Urdd Eisteddfod visited Gwynedd was in Bala in 2014, and before that in Glynllifon near Bangor in 2012 and Llŷn in 1998.
Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Leader of Gwynedd Council, said:
“It is a privilege to be able to confirm that Cyngor Gwynedd is inviting the Urdd National Eisteddfod to our county in 2028. Gwynedd has a long and proud history of working with the Urdd and of welcoming young people from all corners of Wales and beyond here for this week of excitement and fun. We look forward to discussing all the possibilities with the Urdd over the next few months to make sure that 2028’s event will be the best yet.
“The Urdd has so much to offer children and young people, and I know that the eisteddfod faithful are already looking forward. It’s also important that we take the opportunity to make sure that those children and families from Gwynedd who may have never experienced the vibrancy of the Urdd Eisteddfod before have the opportunity to go along and be part of this unique Welsh cultural event.”
