Adra, the largest housing association in north Wales and Castle Green Homes, welcomed a delegation from Denbighshire County Council this week to see how old farmland near Prestatyn is being transformed into a substantial housing development.
Adra is currently developing 102 homes on the Plas Newydd Farm site in Prestatyn, Ffordd Cae Felin is the latest phase which is about to be completed.
42 properties have now been completed, with the rest to be completed in phases until March 2024.
46 of the properties will be for social rent purposes, with the other 56 being intermediate rent units.
The entire development includes a mix of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses, as well as 2 and 4 bedroom bungalows.
Owen Bracegirdle, Adra's Senior Development Project Manager, said: “We are very pleased to see the progress being made with the development of Plas Newydd Farm.
“There is so much demand for affordable housing in this part of Denbighshire, which reflects the national picture. Adra has made a firm commitment in its Corporate Plan to build new, high quality and affordable homes that people can be proud of, and we are committed to continuing the work, with the aim of completing it by spring. ”
Councillor Rhys Thomas, Denbighshire County Council's Lead Member for Housing and Communities, said: “It's great to see a progressive housing organisation like Adra, investing in quality housing to meet the demand here in Denbighshire.
“Increasing demand for quality affordable housing in Denbighshire, creates challenges but it also raises opportunities to collaborate with organisations such as Adra to try to alleviate the problem. Working together is the way forward to tackle housing issues in North Wales.
“There is so much focus on new properties to be more energy efficient and it is great to see Adra leading the way in making the new properties greener in terms of reducing the carbon footprint, as well as saving people money on their energy bills at the same time.”
