More than 30 cleaners, tradesmen and office staff from a commercial cleaning company have given a Cardiff voluntary organisation's HQ a clean-up.

Swansea-based Mrs Buckét launched its Big Community Clean Up initiative to give back to the communities the company works in.

After weeks of nominations, Splott Community Volunteers came out on top with almost half (46%) of the votes for a 24-hour free clean-up led by Mrs Buckét founder Rachael Flanagan and The Big Community Clean Up team.

Armed with paint brushes, mops, and industrial cleaning equipment, the Mrs Buckét team set to work alongside partners Newhall Janitorial, Blitzer Group, CMB Maintenance, Dyfed Recycling and PK Safety, who had all given up time to support the initiative.

This is the first time that Mrs Buckét has held a Big Community Clean Up initiative.

Rachael said:

“When we launched this competition, we really didn’t know how it would land, both with our staff, our partners and with the wider public and the community groups we wanted to help. But as soon as the word started to get out, so did the excitement and the support.

“Our partners have been amazing, and I can’t thank them enough. They have been willing to give their time, their staff and their money to help us complete this challenge it was so wonderful to see them all there on the day, rolling their sleeves up and making such a huge difference to this great community group.”

Rachael added:

“This all wouldn’t have been possible without a tremendous amount of work from my own team as well, and so thanks to them for believing in my bonkers idea and for going with it. You are the best.

“I believe that our hard work and graft will make a massive difference to Splott Community Volunteers and we plan to keep in touch with them to see if we can help again in the future.”

Lynne Thomas, CEO at Splott Community Volunteers, said:

“We were over the moon with winning the Community Clean Up – and what a makeover it was.

“We have had the deepest clean, which has made such a huge difference to our surfaces, flooring, carpets, sofa, kitchen and shelves. We have also had the opportunity to declutter, which has allowed us to create more space in the centre.

“The whole centre paint job has create a new warmth, energy and space in the centre. It has cost us nothing, and what we have had out of this initiative is something our volunteers and service users will enjoy for many years to come.

“I would encourage anybody who has the opportunity to put their organisation forward for the Mrs Buckét Big Community Clean Up to go for it – you won’t regret it. I cannot say thank you enough to Mrs Buckét and all of the partners involved in the project.”
