Cardiff Ladder Company Marks 80 Years in Business

TB Davies, a family-run business based in Cardiff, has marked its 80th anniversary.

Founded in 1945 by RAF Lieutenant TB Davies, known as Bryn, the business has grown from humble beginnings in post-war Cardiff to a leading supplier of ladders and access equipment, now operating from its modern headquarters in Splott.

For eight decades, TB Davies has continually evolved and built a legacy of quality which has been recently recognised with a double win at the Made in Wales awards. The company was honoured with the Sustainable Initiative of the Year award for implementing a carbon reduction plan, installing solar panels, and eliminating plastic packaging across its two top-selling product ranges. TB Davies also won Manufacturer of the Year (under £25m) for expanding its Cardiff factory, introducing automated production lines that increased efficiency and created new jobs.

Throughout its time, TB Davies has fostered a close relationship with NatWest, which has provided consistent support for the entirety of the company's 80 year history. Over the past 25 years on digitalised recorded history, NatWest has extended over £5 million in facility support to help the business.

As TB Davies looks to the future, the company remains dedicated to innovation and growth while staying true to its roots. The release of “Still Climbing,” a special film retracing its journey through Cardiff, honours four generations of family stewardship and celebrates the company's enduring legacy.

David Gray, Managing Director of TB Davies, said:

“Our 80-year journey has been one of resilience, innovation, and dedication to our craft. From the birth of my family’s business to the modern leadership of today, we have always prioritised integrity and quality. NatWest has been with us every step of the way, supporting our growth and helping us navigate challenges. Through years of funding to support our ambitions, the bank has truly played a key role in our business’ ongoing perseverance.”

Neil Williams, Senior Relationship Manager at NatWest, said:

“TB Davies exemplifies the strength and resilience of a family-led business and it is truly a unique situation to have supported a business for the length of time that we have them. Helping local families go out and succeed in the world of business is something we are proud of at NatWest and we look forward to continuing our partnership as TB Davies moves forward.”
