Cardiff Business Club Strengthens Board with Strategic Appointments

Cardiff Business Club has announced the appointment of two new board members as part of its ongoing strategy to modernise and broaden its leadership team.

Catryn Newton, Director of Communications and Community Investment at Bute Energy, and Mark Powney, Managing Director of Business News Wales, have officially joined the board to support the Club’s future growth and engagement plans.

Their appointments come at a pivotal time for the Club, as it continues to evolve to better reflect the diversity, energy and ambition of modern Cardiff, while retaining the prestigious heritage and values that have defined it for generations.

Phil Jardine, Chair of Cardiff Business Club, commented:

“It’s fantastic to welcome Catryn and Mark to the board at such an important time for the Club. Their wealth of experience, strong networks, and high-profile roles within the Welsh business community make them invaluable additions to our leadership team. Their perspectives will be instrumental as we continue to modernise, grow our membership, and ensure the Club remains a relevant and influential force in Cardiff’s civic and business life.”

Catryn Newton said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to join the board of Cardiff Business Club at such an exciting time in its development. The Club plays an important role in bringing together leaders from across sectors, and I’m looking forward to supporting its ambitions to grow, diversify, and reach new audiences in the years ahead.”

Mark Powney added:

“I’ve been attending Cardiff Business Club events for over a decade, and it’s always been a place where meaningful connections and conversations happen. I’m honoured to join the board and help shape the future of such a prestigious institution, ensuring it remains relevant, inclusive, and influential in the years to come.”

The board appointments form part of a wider commitment from the Club to embrace fresh perspectives, attract a more diverse membership, and ensure its programme remains aligned with the needs of Cardiff’s modern business landscape.

The next Cardiff Business Club event will take place on 16 September 2025, welcoming Martin Fraser, Irish Ambassador to Great Britain, as guest speaker.
