Phil Jardine hails “tremendous effort” as series raises thousands and, crucially, awareness of a silent disease
Cardiff Business Club chair Phil Jardine took part in the final leg of Prostate Cymru’s Big Walk last week, joining around 40 supporters for a scenic, and symbolic trek from Aberystwyth Rugby Club through the National Library grounds, the university campus, past the golf course and down the steep Constitution Hill, before looping along the town’s famous promenade and harbour back to the club.

Jardine said he was “absolutely delighted” that Cardiff Business Club has partnered with Prostate Cymru, praising the charity as “excellent” and commending organisers and walkers for a “tremendous effort” that has already generated thousands of pounds.
The Aberystwyth route was the last in a Wales-wide series that has included coastal miles in Pembrokeshire from Solva, a gruelling forest challenge in Carmarthenshire in early July, and other events designed not only to fundraise but, more importantly, to spotlight prostate cancer.
“Men are very reluctant to talk about personal and health issues,” Jardine noted. “Prostate Cymru is doing an amazing job encouraging men to come forward, to be tested, to have very simple blood tests carried out so they can identify whether they either have or could have a challenge later in life. Very often there are little or no symptoms at all.”
He added that by putting on high-profile community walks “among many, many other things”, the charity is helping more men get checked more frequently and catch potential problems sooner.
