Business News Wales has launched a new Sport Business podcast series to consider the strategic importance of sport in Wales to the economy.
The series is part of the media organisation’s new Sport Business section, which is designed to provide an independent, authoritative platform to explore the economic policy implications of sport – a sector which contributes more than £1 billion annually to Wales’ GDP.
The first episode – Exploring the Economic Power of Sport in Wales – sees host Carwyn Jones joined by Noel Mooney, Chief Executive Officer of the Football Association of Wales (FAW), Dan Cherry, CEO of Glamorgan Cricket and Rebecca Edwards-Symmons, Chief Executive of Team Wales.
The episode explores why sport deserves a central seat in economic and policy conversations and how stakeholders across the public, private, and third sectors can work together to maximise its potential.
Mark Powney, Managing Director of Business News Wales, said:
“We believe that Wales’ sporting professionals, from retired athletes to those currently competing at the elite level, have an untapped role to play in shaping our economic future. If we can build a meaningful bridge between the sporting and business communities, we’ll unlock a mindset that could give Wales a genuine competitive edge.”
As well as the podcast, Business News Wales’ Sport Business section will also include in-depth features, interviews with senior leaders, and thought leadership from across the sporting ecosystem.
