An unassuming terraced house in the South Wales valleys hiding an indoor pool got bidders dipping their toes in the property market.

The otherwise large but nondescript four bedroom mid terraced house with swimming pool listed for sale with Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions for £148,000-plus sold for £181,000.

Dilapidated to be sure and in need of more than a little tlc but nonetheless the pool, at 32 Pandy Road in Bedwas in Caerphilly, was not something the property agents expected to be found.

Angie Davey, of Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions who was selling the property, was as surprised as anyone when touring the house, ahead of the online sale.

Going swimmingly: This property in Bedwas, South Wales, with a covered swimming pool in the back, has been sold by Paul Fosh Auctions, for £181,000.

Angie said:

“The terraced house with swimming pool created a huge amount of pre sale interest which translated to energetic online bidding. There were five bidders  going great lengths to secure what is a unique doer-upper terraced property.

“Eventually after 18 bids from the bidders the house in Bedwas, a convenient commuter town for Cardiff and Bristol, sold for a quite healthy £181,000.

“The four bedroom house, which looks like many other terraced properties, is deceptively spacious but clearly needs a complete renovation including to the pool in the rear annexe which has  seen better days.

” The property currently provides lounge, kitchen/breakfast room, dining room and the conservatory extension housing the dilapidated indoor swimming pool.

“The large rear garden houses the garage with rear lane access. The property is to be sold with vacant possession. A house such as this after complete renovation could generate a monthly rental of some £1,100.

Bedwas is a town situated two miles north-east of Caerphilly, south Wales, situated in the Caerphilly county borough, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire.”
