Aldi Increases Pay for Warehouse Colleagues and Boosts Night Premium Payments

Aldi is following up its recent market-leading pay rise for store colleagues by increasing the hourly rate of pay for thousands working in its regional distribution centre in Cardiff.

From September, hourly paid colleagues within its Cardiff warehouse will have received pay rises of up to 9% on their previous January 2022 hourly rates. The majority of distribution centre roles are Warehouse Selectors, who will receive a new minimum rate of £12.66 an hour at its Cardiff warehouse.

The move follows the company’s annual pay review which came into effect from February, which saw pay rates across Aldi’s logistics network increase.

All logistics colleagues working outside normal operating hours will also see their night premium payments increase from 20% to 25% of their normal hourly rate.

The new rates far exceed the Living Wage Foundation’s recommended real living wage of £9.90 an hour nationally.

Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, said:

“This announcement recognises the amazing contribution our logistics colleagues make in serving communities across the country.

“We’re also pleased to be able to increase the night premium we pay to our many colleagues who work so hard to keep our stores well-stocked. Their outstanding efforts help ensure that our customers continue to have access to fresh affordable food, every single day.”

Aldi is the UK’s fifth-largest supermarket and has more than 970 stores and 11 regional distribution centres across Britain.
