Construction of a new affordable housing development by United Welsh Group is underway in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly.
The development is being delivered by United Welsh in partnership with Welsh Government, Caerphilly County Borough Council, and Bluefield Land Ltd.
It will consist of three apartment buildings for General Needs, residents aged over 55, and supported housing provided by United Welsh's Thrive service. All the homes will be one-bedroom apartments.
The development is located close to Parc Penallta and the village facilities of Ystrad Mynach, meaning that residents will be able to reach local businesses, schools, and other services, including the hospital and library. Nearby public transport links, including the bus station and Park and Ride train station, will also help residents stay connected with the wider community.
All homes will be built to AECB standard (an alternative to EPC-A), and fitted with technology that will make the homes more affordable to heat, such as solar panels and air-source heat pumps. The technology fitted at the homes supports United Welsh's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
The timber frame structures for the homes will be built by Celtic Offsite, a social enterprise within the United Welsh Group, from its factory in Caerphilly. The structures will arrive on site complete with fitted insulation and windows, with the build then finished on-site by development contractor Bluefield Land Ltd.

United Welsh currently provides over 2,500 affordable homes across Caerphilly, and intends to build 1,300 new homes across South Wales in the next five years.
The development at Winding Wheel Lane is due to be completed in summer 2028.
