Transport operator Adventure Travel has activated its new low bridge warning technology, which has recently been fitted to its high-sided vehicles.
This innovative system is designed to alert drivers of certain buses and coaches when they approach low bridges, reducing the risk of occurrences that can lead to costly damages and service disruptions.
The warning equipment is now live across all double-decker buses and over-decker coaches in the fleet. It emits a clear warning sound as a bus or coach nears a low bridge, providing a safeguard for both drivers and the infrastructure they traverse.
Adam Keen, Managing Director for Adventure Travel said:
“Bridge strikes by high-sided vehicles remain a significant concern across the UK. We understand that good practices, regular training and general awareness are crucial in preventing bridge strikes. However, this technology brings additional piece of mind and acts as a further avoidance measure. Adventure Travel operate many rural bus routes in South Wales and provide long distance coach trips for sports clubs, schools and universities around the UK, which makes this investment in safety essential to ensure smoother, safer journeys for everyone on the road.”
