Acorn by Synergie Hosts Third Annual Golf Tournament to Support Former Employees

Acorn

Recruitment company Acorn by Synergie is set to host its third annual golf tournament for construction clients which begins on April 10th and runs until October 3rd, with proceeds dedicated to fundraising for two former employees.

The tournament will raise vital funds for Ryan Thomas, team manager of Pontypool RFC, who survived two heart attacks and a stroke in November, and Kristian Smith, a rugby player from Blaina who tragically passed away last June after suffering a cardiac arrest. Ryan was a Client Relationship Manager at Acorn for five years until 2022 and Kristian was a Recruitment Consultant for a year until 2023.

In the past two years, the event has raised over £8,000 for worthy causes, and this year, Acorn aims to build on that success. The tournament has become a much-anticipated event for its charitable efforts, and also for the friendly competition it fosters among businesses in the construction industry.

Acorn by Synergie’s Client Development Director Lawrence Beach said:

“The decision to support Ryan Thomas and Kristian Smith reflects the strong connections Acorn has with both men, as well as the impact these awful events have had on their families.

“Ryan is still recovering from the life-changing incidents that saw him in intensive care for seven weeks, and while Kristian’s tragic passing left a big hole in all our hearts, we want to ensure his memory lives on and help his bereaved family, including his daughter, whom he never had the chance to meet.

“The construction industry is full of highly competitive, sporty people, and this event gives us a chance to unwind, enjoy some healthy competition, and come together as a community. While it's primarily about raising money for Ryan’s recovery and Kristian’s family, it's also a chance to bond, reconnect, and share ideas. There’s no better way to enjoy some friendly rivalry while also supporting causes that are incredibly close to our hearts.

“In addition to raising funds for these important causes, the tournament provides a fun and relaxing outlet for participants. Golf is a fantastic way to relieve the stress of daily work pressures, and it's great for mental health, too. This tournament isn’t just a typical golf day; it’s more like a head-to-head competition, which makes it more exciting for those who really love the game. We’ve seen great friendships and new business connections form over the years, and we’re excited to see that continue as we enter our third year.”

The tournament will feature 24 teams of two players, who will compete in three “head-to-head” league matches throughout the spring and summer months. Players will organise their own matches at a variety of golf courses provided free of charge by Acorn’s partners. The matches can be scheduled at any time between April and September 2025, offering flexibility for participants.

The excitement will culminate in a finals’ day on October 3rd 2025, where all 48 players will gather to play their final round. The tournament’s league positions will determine which of three trophies teams will compete for. A total of 36 head-to-head matches will be played, ensuring plenty of action and excitement.
