To celebrate last week's National Apprenticeship Week, Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s leading and best-connected port operator, launched its Apprenticeship programme for 2022. The hugely popular programme is seeking the next generation of colleagues to join the business in September, taking up key maritime industry roles.

Applications are now open for a diverse range of roles, with opportunities covering specialisms such as Marine Operatives, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and IT, and will be split across ABP’s regions, including the Humber, East Anglia, Southampton and South Wales.

ABP’s 21 ports, which include Immingham, the UK’s largest port by tonnage, and Southampton, the UK’s number one port for export and cruise, handle around 25% of the UK’s seaborne trade, and support over 120,000 jobs nationwide. Currently, ABP has 35 Apprentices employed, across Marine, Engineering, Human Resources, Pilotage and Commercial placements.

Maritime Minister, Robert Courts, said:

“I am delighted that ABP is offering opportunities to kickstart a highly rewarding career in the maritime sector. As we recover from the pandemic, investing in the talent of the future to bolster our ports and trade is a fantastic sign that the UK is once again open for business.”

Alison Rumsey, Chief Human Resources Officer, said:

“We are excited to launch our newest programme of Apprenticeships, in addition to the Marine Pilot apprentices who joined us in January. At ABP, our apprentices play huge roles in supporting future talent, with access to a wide variety of specialities within the Maritime and Logistics industries. We wish all applicants luck in their applications and look forward to welcoming the newest apprentices at the end of 2022.”

From marine pilot apprentices through to engineering and port operations, to office and property careers, ABP has got what it takes to get you started – have you?

The first opportunities are now available on the ABP Career site, with more to come, so please keep your eyes peeled.
