Tŷ Hafan Golf Day Scores Fundraising ‘Hole in One’

Keen golfers from across South Wales have raised more than £20,000 for Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice.

In all, 24 teams took part in the charity’s now annual golf day at Radyr Golf Club on 24 April hosted by former Welsh rugby international Shane Williams and supported by motivational speaker and former Traitors contestant Andrew Jenkins.

Long time Tŷ Hafan supporter Shane said:

“It was a pleasure to be back at Radyr Golf Club and to be asked to support Tŷ Hafan again is incredible, a charity I’m proud to have been involved with for more than 10 years. Fortunately for the club I didn’t play golf on the day, I didn’t want to hack up the green! But I had the opportunity to do my first charity auction which was great. I was massively humbled to be a part of this event again.”

Jeffrey Ross estate agents were overall winners.

Team member Ross Hooper-Nash said:

“It was a fantastic day. We support Tŷ Hafan every year. The course here is in fantastic condition so credit to the club and to Tŷ Hafan for putting on such a good day. We were lucky to have a team of high-level handicappers who played such a good game.”

Sorrel Mayo, Senior Relationship Fundraiser for Tŷ Hafan, said:

“A massive thank you to everyone who came along to our Tŷ Hafan Golf Day, raising an incredible £21,990 for children and families in Wales.

“Huge congratulations to the winning team from Jeffrey Ross Estate Agents to Andy Davies from Work Bench for Nearest the Pin to Finlay Mullens from SRK for Longest Drive in the men’s competition, and to Charlotte Mews from Peter Lynn & Partners for taking the ladies’ Longest Drive.

“We’re incredibly grateful to our headline sponsors, Mitie, whose support made the day possible, and to Radyr Golf Club, where the greens looked absolutely stunning in the sunshine. A big thank you as well to One Stop for providing the raffle prizes, water and chocolate for the goody bags, and to Rhino Global for donating the fantastic goody bags, golf balls, polo shirt prizes and an auction item.

“Thank you to everyone who donated an auction prize and helped us raise such an extraordinary amount for Tŷ Hafan. Thank you too to Ian Williams from Riley Sports Photography for taking such great photos for us. And special thanks must go to our brilliant host, Shane Williams, who was amazing throughout, so entertaining and a fantastic auctioneer.

“We’re also grateful to Andrew Jenkins from The Traitors, who spoke so powerfully about the impact of Tŷ Hafan, and to the wonderful Tŷ Hafan dads Anthony Boggis and Paul Fears, who bravely shared their experiences and reminded us all why days like this matter so much.

“Finally, we’d like to thank all the sponsors who played on the day. Together, they've helped make a real difference for families across Wales. Their generosity will help ensure that when a child’s life will be short, no family has to live it on their own.”

Joanna Davies, Account Director from Mitie, said:

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to be able to attend Tŷ Hafan’s Golf Day at Radyr this morning and speak on behalf of Mitie. This is the third year that Mitie have been headline sponsor for this event and it’s a privilege to be able to support such a worthy cause. It was fantastic to see the level of support and the day was a huge success.

“Today was an absolutely fantastic day,” summed up Andrew Jenkins. “We had a room full of connection and people doing amazing things to support Tŷ Hafan. I feel so privileged to be able to support Tŷ Hafan who are changing the lives of children and their families.”

Tŷ Hafan Golf Day 2027 will take place at Radyr Golf Club on April 23rd 2027. For more information and to register your interest contact sorrel.mayo@tyhafan.org
