Springboard Business Innovation Centre, a key hub for enterprise, entrepreneurship, innovation and business growth in Torfaen, is marking its 20th anniversary.
Since opening its doors in 2005, Springboard has supported more than 150 businesses, helping to create over 500 jobs and attract more than £12 million in investment.
From tech start-ups to creative enterprises, the centre has provided flexible office space, expert advice, and networking opportunities that have enabled businesses to thrive and prosper.
As Springboard celebrates its 20-year milestone, plans are already in motion to ensure the centre continues to meet the evolving needs of businesses for decades to come.
Upcoming initiatives include a major digital transformation, with upgraded facilities and cutting-edge technology to support hybrid working and digital-first enterprises.
The centre is also embracing green innovation by introducing sustainable practices and energy-efficient infrastructure in line with the council’s climate goals.
In addition, expanded support services will provide enhanced mentoring, funding advice, and skills development programmes to help businesses scale. Strengthening community collaboration is another priority, with deeper partnerships planned with local schools, colleges, and universities to nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Cllr Joanne Gauden, Torfaen Council's Executive Member for Economy, Skills and Regeneration, said:
“Springboard has been instrumental in shaping Torfaen’s business landscape.
“As we look to the future, our focus is on creating an environment where innovation thrives and businesses can adapt to the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing world.”
The Springboard Business Innovation Centre marked its 20th anniversary with a special event showcasing success stories from businesses that have flourished with its support.
Among those celebrating was David Harlow, CEO of pH Innovate and a former Springboard tenant, who shared his experience:
“When I started out as an entrepreneur, Springboard and the team were there for me, and they continued to do so throughout my business journey.
“I’ve started many businesses over the years—most of them were a success, but some of them failed—and what I found really useful was that I wasn’t tied into long contracts. The flexibility of renting spaces was just what I needed at the time.
“This is one of the reasons I kept coming back to Springboard. It gave new entrepreneurs the breathing space they need, and I knew if I had any business-related questions the team were always on hand.
“I’m proud to be associated with the Springboard Business Innovation Centre, and wish it luck for the next 20 years.”
Winners of the Innovation & Technology Business of the Year at the recent Torfaen, Monmouthshire, and Blaenau Gwent Business Awards, Iestyn Foster, Co-Founder and CEO of Amotio Health, explained why Springboard was the perfect choice for their growing business:
“When I was looking for a location to start the business, Springboard ticked all the boxes.
“Its excellent transport links made it convenient, and the space offered was exactly what we needed.
“Within Springboard we have our own laboratory, and space to expand if we need it in the future.”
