Pembrokeshire Coast Ranger Honoured in Prestigious MoD Sanctuary Awards

A Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority Ranger who has championed conservation at the Castlemartin Range for more than two decades has been recognised at the Ministry of Defence’s Sanctuary Awards.

Lynne Houlston received the coveted Silver Otter Trophy, awarded for her long-standing commitment to conservation management and for helping balance the site’s vital training role with its nationally important wildlife and heritage.

Lynne began her role with the Park Authority in 2003, in a partnership jointly funded by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, the Authority and Natural Resources Wales. The collaboration has transformed how the MoD manages one of its most sensitive training areas, ensuring that military use and nature conservation work side by side.

Tegryn Jones, Chief Executive at the Authority, said:

“We’re delighted to see Lynne’s hard work and dedication recognised at a national level. Her commitment to protecting Castlemartin’s unique landscape, wildlife and heritage while supporting the MoD’s training needs shows how effective collaboration can benefit both people and nature.”

The MoD Sanctuary Awards celebrate outstanding environmental and sustainability work across the defence estate.
