Conference for Environmental Health Profession Coming to Wales in October

Key figures in environmental and public health in Wales will be among the keynote speakers at a major conference coming to Cardiff this October.

The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Wales Conference takes place over two days on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 October at the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff.

Among the confirmed speakers for the event are Professor Isabel Oliver, Chief Medical Officer for the Welsh Government, who will open up day one with a keynote address on the key health challenges in Wales and the environmental health and strategic solutions.

There will also be an update on the first day on Health Impact Assessment (HIA) (Wales) regulations delivered by Professor Liz Green, the Programme Director for HIA with Public Health Wales.

Day two’s programme is headlined by a keynote session from Katie Pettifer, Chief Executive of the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on future strategies and priorities of the FSA.

There will be a session looking at the post-Covid health protection system chaired by Sarah Johns, Chief Environmental Public Health Officer with the Welsh Government and CIEH Trustee with panel members including Nia Roberts, Deputy Director Health Protection with the Welsh Government.

Over the two days there will also be sessions, best-practice workshops, and case studies exploring how environmental health professionals can tackle challenges while continuing to protect public health and wellbeing.

Mark Elliott, President of CIEH who will be chairing the conference, said:

“I am truly excited about welcoming environmental health professionals, policymakers and all those attending the CIEH Wales Conference in Cardiff. We already have a great selection of speakers confirmed and I’m looking forward to some really engaging and important conversations, and meeting with colleagues in person for a real celebration of our profession.

“The theme – Embracing Change, Empowering Environmental Health – could not be more relevant. From climate challenges to new technologies, change is constant. But with change comes opportunity – to strengthen our profession, protect communities, and ensure environmental health remains at the heart of a safer, fairer, healthier Wales.”
